Newmarket Films has taken US rights to Sundance buzz film Hesher, which stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Devin Brochu, Natalie Portman and Rainn Wilson. The dark comedy-drama is the first feature from writer-director Spencer Susser, who's short "I Love Sarah Jane" played Park City in 2008.
Wilson and Brochu play a grieving father and teenage son whose lives are disrupted by a pyromaniacal stoner (Gordon-Levitt). Portman plays a supermarket cashier on whom the teen develops a crush. The film is produced by Lucy Cooper, Matt Weaver, Scott Prisand, Johnny Lin, Win Sheridan and Susser, along with Portman's Handsomecharlie Films.
